Not sure where the 230 lbs came from. What I'm looking at says 170...

Any guy who pays his own way and is willing to try and help the Bobcats is a welcome addition in more ways than just on court performance.

If we see him in anything more competitive than mop-up minutes, I would imagine that he took part in quite a few practices.

Go Bobcats!

Another random thing to add is that Michael Brown Jr is no longer listed on the roster. Could be that McDaniel was given his spot.

So if they are eliminating players that are no longer with the team and a new scholarship is not open does that mean that they expect McDay back at some point even unknown to Boals in the future?

I have to assume that McDaniel is a walk-on and I believe that so was Michael Brown. Is there an NCAA limit for walk-ons? I do not recall such a rule. A lot of coaches only take 1 or 2 as a matter of their own rules. Fourth year walk-ons are sometimes given a scholarship if they have worked hard and improved as a matter of player relations. As far as I know John Tenerowicz is still a walk-on.

The best case scenario for next year is that BVP and Wilson come back for super-senior seasons, McDay is ready to return, and neither Boals or Sears is poached by a blue-blood. I don't think that we have clarification on super-seniors counting against scholarship limits or even if the University would allow the team to be over the usual limit. Odds are a couple of players will transfer out who are unhappy with playing time will transfer out. Maybe there could be scholarships for all of these guys and Frazier too. With the COVID rules and transfer rules and no full-time beat writer keeping up with it, it has become hard to know. Maybe for that reason I just shouldn't even think about what the team might look like next year because I'll end up wrong anyway.

I think Michael might've quit. He seems to be very active on making youtube videos

In years past, transfers provided practice talent to the active roster until they were NCAA allowed to play and when cleared, hit the ground running.

With the new rules of transfer, a Frazier would not have had to sit for the first semester. If Frazier had been with the team from the beginning of practice he most likely would have been on the bench before seeing him in the final of the semester.

He likely fell into Boals lap and had lost the basketball Eye of the Tiger with his Covid/appendix illness and matriculated to OHIO where a coed was a special appeal.

Good luck and may this be a story with a very happy ending for all involved.

PrepHoops.com shows that Ohio offered him coming out of high school.

https://www.prephoops.com/player/luke-frazier /

Granted, I would have felt more confident if this information was on the 247Sports website (it wasn't).

Verbal Commits is reliable and they show we offered him.

Checked 247 and they don't have a profile on him for some reason. Nonetheless will be interesting to see how Boals plays him. I'm guessing tonight he probably won't play much, max 5 minutes in rotation. But really helps to fill in our guard depth. I'll also be interested to see if McDaniel plays - 230 lb guard. He has the potential to do some damage on defense.

Roster lists him as 6-4 230. Is he ripped or carrying a few extra? Or both probably? How man 230 guards out there? Looking forward to seeing him get some run and putting his body on a matchup 40-50 lbs smaller. He might be my idol.

As a 6'4" 250 man myself...personally I think 6'4" 230 sounds like a perfectly reasonable slender guard.

Guard what? Guarding the refrigerator?

Sorry, but you left yourself unguarded!

Oops Grover Ball, my bad… And, since I’m here, I would add that Mr. McDaniel is a welcome addition as well! That said, I would think that if McDaniel plays more than Frazier, even in just these next couple games, I will have to draw back my expectations for Lukas helping much anytime soon. We shall see…

Go Bobcats!

Well played. Yes Fridge Guard, Left Guard, Taco Bell drive-thru guard. We can serve many roles.

From the coach interview pregame:

-Michael Brown off the team to sort some off the court stuff. Tone sounded like a return is possible. Doesn't sound like there will be any effect on Miles' status.

-Mcday still not with the team "yet", but on campus taking classes.

-McDaniel and Frazier will help in practice.

Was going to point this out myself. That suggests Lunden will be back. If Frazier can also be a contributor and McDay can get back…. Man, could have the depth for a run later this season.

I don't expect us to see much of him this year. Boals mentioned him following BG game as "additional practice depth."

Agreed. Although he is just "practice depth" for now, would be cool to see if he gets a chance to play. But at best I only expect garbage time play.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's more than "garbage time" play by the end of the season. He needs a lot of time practicing with the team before he would be ready for crucial game time.

He needs weight room work and more and then will need to shoot his way into the lineup.
