Both teams have a player who has faced the Bobcats.

I wonder how rare this is. I am sure that it isn't the case every season. That would be the case, or at least close to the case, for most P5 schools. But I doubt that is all that improbable for Ohio either. I suspect that it would have not been an abnormal thing in the 90's and early 2000's There are not any where near as many MAC players in the NBA as there was 25 years ago but that's the case for every non-high-major leagues. A lot of NBAer's only spend a year or two in college so that certainly has an affect on the odds. Still, I doubt that this is a crazy rare event if we count the guys on the bench that never get into the final's games. Maybe it is. However, I'm not curious enough to go back and check.

For giggles I checked the 2019 Finals between Golden State and Toronto. Ohio ALMOST had an opponent from each team, but Greg Monroe was traded from Toronto before the Playoffs.

Who are the most high profile current NBA players that we have played while they were in college? Right now it's clearly Curry with Horford and Rondo the next rung down. All guys we played more than 15 years ago. Is there a starting caliber NBA player that we played since after Groce left?

A list of guys who went to the league (or had a cup of coffee with a team) and also played against Ohio since 2012-2013 that I could find via sports-reference.com:

Adonis Thomas - Memphis
DJ Stephens - Memphis
Tarik Black - Memphis
Buddy Hield - Oklahoma
Kay Felder - Oakland
Dwayne Bacon - Florida State
Malik Beasley - Florida State
Xavier Rathan-Mayes - Florida State
Terance Mann - Florida State
Jaylen Adams - St. Bonaventure
Rob Edwards - Cleveland State
Xavier Moon - Morehead State
Shaquille Harrison - Tulsa
Josh Okogie - Georgia Tech
Donte Grantham - Clemson
Kostas Antetokounmpo - Dayton
Kevin Huerter - Maryland
Bruno Fernando - Maryland
Naji Marshall - Xavier
Carsen Edwards - Purdue
Saddiq Bey - Villanova
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl - Villanova
Jared Butler - Baylor
Davion Mitchell - Baylor
Freddie Gillespie - Baylor
Ayo Dosunmu - Illinois
Sam Hauser - Virginia
Jay Huff - Virginia
Trey Murphy - Virginia

Hassan Whiteside (Marshall) is probably the other biggest name, but that was during the Groce era.

Ah, Beasley and Bacon are alright and semi starters. We gave that FSU team a decent fight. I think the Pistons like Saddiq Bey.

Guess the answer must be Buddy Hield.

Whiteside is the first NBA opponent I think of, because when we played him he wasn't yet considered a consensus "NBA guy" but after watching him in those games he didn't leave much doubt...

I've seen crazier things happen.
