Clippers are getting very active. Just got Eric Gordon and are making a play for Westbrook. Will be interesting if Preston survives the next 30 minutes as a Clipper (or is packaged as a throw in as trades get finalized) - certainly heading to G-league as the playoff push gets going if he stays with the organization..

Now they’ve traded away Reggie Jackson, so one PG in, one out.

Great day to be JP.

Wall gone.

Jackson gone.

Bones Hyland in.

JP has to be getting some meaningful minutes moving forward now.

Think he's still third on the depth chart. Mann has been starting, so Jackson's minutes likely go to Bones. Sadly, not sure this helps Preston as it just adds another couple of guards to the rotation.

PG: Terance Mann, Bones Hyland, Jason Preston
SG: Paul George, Eric Gordon, Amir Coffey, BJ Boston
SF: Kawhi Leonard, Norman Powell

They don't really have a "true pg", Hyland is basically the role I saw JP in, so we'll see how that shakes out.

Feels like we're gonna see a lot of EG/PG/KL line-ups, with everyone else filling out around.

They've lost 10 of 13, so maybe we'll see more line-up shifts.

JP could def make some plays for all these shooters.

Gets 5 minutes Friday in loss to Milwaukee. Hits his only FG attempt.

Sounds like Paul George is trying to get his buddy Russell Westbrook to return to LA and play for the Clippers.

I know we all want JP to see the floor and have a shot, but I feel like the writing is on the wall right now that it's not going to happen in LA. There's been PG injuries in front of him and players traded away, only to see Jason still sitting the bench. He seems to have proven he can play at a high level in the G League, so maybe another NBA team will give him a shot or he can go overseas and make a fine living.

Obviously, I want to see him get the time and opportunity now with the Clippers, I just don't see it happening.

I don't think the Clippers are a great fit for him. So much of their offense runs through Kawhi and Paul George that having a PG whose strengths are on-the-ball isn't ideal.

I think everyone is forgetting the man sat out his rookie year with an injury. He hasn't even played a full NBA season yet. If it doesn't work out in LA, another team in the NBA will grab him. Let's not push him to Europe just yet.

Patience.

I don’t see why they don’t give him a chance as the #2 PG. He almost had a double - double against most of the Cavs starters in that blowout. He shot well and didn’t really make dumb mistakes. For someone that you spent a very early second round pick on, I think it’ll be time to start getting a bigger role. JP tears up the G league when they send him down and then when he’s on the big stage, he typically scores when he’s in. I guess I’ll never be a GM.

NBA teams don't have patience. Preston has a lot of talent and dribbles and passes at an NBA level. He's also a guy who still needs to develop a lot and he'll be 24 before the next NBA season. If a team wants to spend a year or two getting a guard to improve a really deficient jumper and learn to create his own shot they'll probably do it with a 19-year-old. Brutal and maybe even unfair but true.

Pretty hard to make a case for Preston over Bones Hyland based on the numbers.

The Clippers are not in the position to turn the keys of their offense over to a redshirt rookie and he doesn't play well enough off the ball to warrant time when they run the offense through Leonard or George. So, unfortunately, I don't expect him to get any quality time the rest of the season. The difference between G league and the NBA is like the difference between summer league and the regular season - it's night and day -- but a good training ground. The Clippers aren't giving up on him, they're just too deep for him to.break in, and that's before they add a PG via the buyout route. I'm still gonna hold on to my Preston jersey.

That added point guard is apparently likely to be Russell Westbrook.

Confirmed. Idk what the Clippers want to do with JP, but my gut tells me they might deal him within the next year. He's proven to be a very solid player even in a small sample size, I think someone would trade for him.

If anyone can save your season, it's the 34-year-old who's been traded four times in four years.

CAVS have about 46 PG's at the moment, but Rubio and Neto are older rotation guys, they could use a young true PG to come in and create shots for Mitchell, Garland when one of them is on the bench.

Probably wont happen, as they're entering their young core + vets stage of the rebuild, but we can hope.

they gave him "0". Preston had been wearing it this year. I wish the Clips would trade JP to the Bulls. We need a pass-first point guard up here. Lonzo Ball is not coming back, I fear.

Jay had a string of DNP/CD's with LA before the break, I'm interested to see if he goes back to Ontario in the G League now that they signed Westbrook.

24 points 10 dimes for Jay last night in a 1-point loss for Ontario. They blew a 17 point halftime lead, lots of cold shooting in the 3rd quarter let Stockton come back and tie the game in one quarter.

Are these games on TV, 100%Cat? I sometimes see a G League game scheduled for NBATV but rarely see Ontario as one of the teams.

Last night they were on ESPN+, no announcers, just the ambient arena noise. I watch the ESPN app for TV info. If there's TV, usually it will say on their score page what channel is carrying it. I've caught a few of their games this year, I think they were all on ESPN+.
