What about this 6-10 juco kid from Egypt?

He knows how to both finish at the rim and rim protect on defense?

He's beginning to look like the DWIII we remember from before the surgery -- maybe even better. What a dominant performance last night. Truly awe inspiring. I listened to the post-game interview, and it's clear that not only is he a great basketball player, but he's a great person with a real team-oriented philosophy.

One question: is he totally out of eligibility after this year, or does he still have his Covid-19 year if he wants to take it? I find it's hard to keep track of these things these days.

I believe he totally exhausts his eligibility after this year.

He was a high school senior in 2016-2017.

He came to OU as a grad transfer.

I'm sure he might be able to apply for an injury waiver or something, but I think he's good enough to go make some money in Europe while he's still young.

Think our options next season are tremendous pain or the portal.

Once again, DWIII shows that he is dominant in basketball. Hopefully, he is working himself onto an All-MAC team. A game of 31 points, 11 rebounds, ZERO turnovers, and finds a way to stay out of foul trouble as well. He's shooting around 61% for the year, and tonight was over 80%. Just remarkable. I have to imagine he's got a strong future playing overseas.

Last yearís team with Dwight would have been a nightmare for most. Bumping Carter to 4 and BVP to 3; with Sears ó- the program could look entirely different this season. Iíd like to think weíd probably repeat as MAC champs and make some noise in tourney. Which might have led to Boals actual departure.

While I agree with the sentiment that adding Wilson to the talent we had last year would've made us more talented, I'm not sure it makes us as unstoppable as some think. I am not sure those 3 on the floor together would've made our offense much better, as the spacing with Wilson and Carter out there together would've been rough. If we think Sears didn't have enough room to operate last year with the shooting woes, I don't think adding Wilson would've helped much. And defensively, while BVP is okay switching onto guards or quicker players for a possession or brief parts of possessions, I don't think it would've been as pretty if he was assigned to a smaller, quicker forward at all times. Same with Carter.

Also, I believe I have seen here somewhere that Wilson was actually injured in the 2021 NCAA tournament or before then, so we went into the offseason before last year knowing we'd be without him in the 2021-22 season. I think that is why Boals & co. went after Carter. I am at least skeptical that Boals and Carter would've been so agreeable about a reunion if they thought BVP and Wilson were back and healthy for the following year.

EDIT: I guess I should contribute something on the actual topic of the thread too. So yes, agreed, Dwight Wilson III is good at basketball. We'd be in rough shape without him this year.

Valid point on Carter potentially not returning to Athens with a healthy DW3. Last yearís team really lacked a 4th scoring punch and Dwight would have been just that. But, weíll never know. Heís been a joy to watch this year nonetheless.

I think IJ will start in place of Wilson next year and will need to shake off a lot of rust at the beginning of the season, but will come on strong at the end of the year. Behind him? Will have to be someone in the portal it seems.

Agree with this if GWiz still isn't up to standards for next year. I'm sure he will be better, but from what I've seen improvement has been slightly slower.

It seems clear to me that Boals sees more upside potential in Gabe than many posters on BA do. In Boals we trust! ;-)

I showed up an hour early for Tuesday's game. The team was shooting around at one end of the court while Wiz and 2 assistants were alone at the other end. It was interesting to watch him repeatedly catch passes, pivot, elevate and score, never dribbling more than once. Come gametime, however, he put the ball on the floor 3-4 times before every shot. All of that fluidity was gone.

I think it's clear that Ohio's center for 2023-2024 is not currently on Ohio's roster. I mean I like IJ's potential, but the guy can't stay healthy. Not his fault, just reality and the sample size has been limited. I'm going to have big-time concerns if IJ is the starting center next November. Our starting center for next season will be found through the portal. As for the Whiz....I'm with FJC31.....it would surprise me if he's back next year. Boals can't afford to mess around and take projects/chances in this era of college ball. I think he'll fall into the Mason McMurray, AJ Gareri and Colin Granger category.

But not the Zach Butler, Marvin Price and Jalen White category?

Sure...add those guys too. Rifen Miguel...EDoz...Andy Kanzig...LaFerla twins....whatever whiffs you want to mention...throw them out there. All applicable. And what I mean by McMurray, Gareri and Granger...it wouldn't surprise me if those guys were gently told to actively pursue new schools. That's what I meant about that specific "recent category".

I understand. . . and I'm wondering if IJ ends up in that category. Guess we haven't seen enough of him yet to have an idea.

In no way am I giving up on IJ. We just need to see him play 30 games in one season.

I forget why he didnt play early on last year? Was it mono? Covid? I don't remember it being an actual injury, but sometimes my brain doesn't work properly.

Offseason leg injury?

If this site is correct I believe Wilson is one of the oldest players in D-1 this season. Cannot find birthday elsewhere

Honest debate:

Leon Williams or DW3?

Who would you rather have?

For me it's Leon by quite a bit.

Important to remember that DW3 is in his 5th season and missed a whole year. He's what? 23? 24?

Leon was a contributor as a true freshman.

Ha, I came across that too but assumed it couldn't be right. That would mean he started at JMU as a 20 year old freshman, I think.

I probably would to. I mean Leon won MAC Freshman of the Year, but he's the immediate comparison in my mind. Both of them technicians in the box area.

Just turned 26.

Edit to say not sure about that, thought I remembered Russ mentioning it in post game interview but maybe I read it in an earlier post on BA and that poster was trusting the internet, which is never wrong, right? Agree with other poster who pointed out it's hard to believe he graduated HS at 20?

Apologize for the ignorance but has anybody actually confirmed this? I find that hard to believe. I know he's in his 6th college season: 3 at JMU, 3 years with us with a medical redshirt last year.

But if he's really 26 that would still mean he didn't start at JMU until he was 20.

What was he held back a year AND took a gap/prep year AND spent 6 college seasons?

I'd buy 24. MAYBE even 25. 26 seems a stretch. Anyone?

Based on Twitter, he is 24. Much more believable considering when he graduated HS+grad transfer+MRS.

Vander Plas appears to be a couple weeks older than Wilson. I'd have to guess with the COVID year we may have some 25 year old players in D1 this year? This year would be the Peak age due to covid or not yet?

Chris Weinke won a Heisman at 28 at FSU after playing baseball for a while before enrolling. Anything is possible.
