Guessing he didn’t want to leave Cali. I’m actually really intrigued by TJ Nesmith of Lenior-Rhyne (D2). I know it’s a level below; but, he’s physical/athletic on both ends of the court (found some highlights). His 36 blocks last year were more than our bigs combined (34). Whether it’s him or someone else, would love to add this type of player profile.

I'm not saying I wouldn't have offered Wiz... I'm just saying someone like Khalid Gates out of Slippery Rock might've been a better fit.

MDWST....your hoops IQ is one of the best on this board. No way you would have offered The Whiz...no way.

So, you are implying that MDWST and you have higher basketball IQs than the Ohio basketball staff?

The staff basketball IQ is still better combined than me and MDWST...haha. However, give MDWST and me 15 minutes with The Whiz, and I bet we can show him how to set a screen without always moving his feet and getting called for a foul.

I'm not sure James Naismith himself could teach him to set his feet.

Baby steps.

For every Gabe drift I'm just gonna insert that we need more Quinn Corna!

I am pretty sure the Optimist threw that statement out there as bait and boy did we take it.

If we don't rely on Wiz to set screens, or make basic rebounds/plays with his hands in general, or ever dribble, or shoot anything other than uncontested layups...sure he could be a nice piece of the offense.

Myles Foster will also be visiting Temple this weekend and having a Zoom with GW this week.

My BBIQ is telling me that all the moving screens weren't his fault and some of the blame can most likely point to the ball handlers not waiting until the screen is set before making a move towards the hoop.

Anyone who claims Gabe did not make any progress this season is willfully ingnoring reality. A ton of progress? No, but he has gotten better.

Goodness...then count me in as having no perception of reality I guess. My god....just look at the numbers of the team when he's on the court. +/- is a good indicator and it was atrocious. I can go on and on about The Whiz, but time to re-focus on the portal and get big guys who can contribute and set a legal screen.

Eh, idk if anyone is willfully ignoring anything. In the final five games; Gabe had 13 rebounds, 6 points, 10 fouls, 5 turnovers, and 2 blocks. He pretty much stayed the same, minimal impact.

Curtis Jones transfers out of Buffalo to make it four players lost by Buffalo to the portal - will likely be a complete rebuild of their roster along with Central Mich. 5 more are still in the portal for them leaving only 5 on the roster including recent 2023 commit Bryson Wilson

You cannot teach 6’10” tall. My hope for Wiz this off-season is that he jumps rope 1000 times a day and catches 1000 balls a day. He must improve both his hands and feet to be an effective division one basketball player.

I will say one thing about Gabe, he made Enrique Freeman look really bad when Akron was at the Convo this past season.

So this guy has no ability?

Have you ever thought maybe some of the problem lies with our head coach? His recruiting is way worse than Saul. 2/3 of out recruits are D2 level guys. And seems he can hit 3's.

For the sake of getting discussions back to portal, it looks like Keshawn Hall is committing soon. Lamar liked his Tweet; but it seems like George Mason could be favorite.

Interestingly enough; Lamar and Ike Cornish of Maryland just started following each other. Cornish visited George Mason over the weekend. Another name to keep an eye on.

I'd like to have Keshawn but I think I'm on the Myles Foster bandwagon now.

All in on Foster too. We have two schollies remaining; so, there’s always the possibility to end up with both.

Jerry...if you watched The Whiz play 32 games this past season, then you know the answer to this question.

I would sacrifice taking a 6'9 guy out of the portal in exchange for Ali Ali and Myles Foster today. Just can't have Ali Ali going to Kent or Toledo or god help us...back to Akron.

Not sure if the Boals/Matta friendship helps or hurts any interest Ali would have in Ohio?

I don't think he will be back in the MAC. He had an alright season at Butler considering his injury. There will be P5 teams offering him NIL money. Every P5 team in the country is in the market for experienced 5th year Seniors right now.

I've seen crazier things happen.

That’s fine. If not Ohio, keep him from the other big three in the conference.

Hall is a 6'7" 250 pound... GUARD? I've never seen him play, but now I'm very curious.

I think the opposite. I'm a big MAC fan (not the McDonald's variety), second only to being an Ohio fan. A player like Ali Ali Ali playing for a MAC school is directly good for the MAC, and Ohio indirectly.

Guard skills with strength around the rim. I'd love to have this guy.

I totally understand that as well. But from a purely selfish point of view, if he's not going to lead Ohio to a MAC championship, I don't want him helping another MAC school to the big dance. He's already done it once. I hear ya though.

He’s Nick Perkins. According to his dad, we offered a few weeks back. Since, I’ve only seen updates that the new VCU and George Mason staff’s offered. He visited the latter two weeks ago and even took photos with the uni. No idea if he’s visited us in between or even considering.
