I was hoping the MAC would be better next year. But with the mass exodus of talent from second division teams and Buffalo, it looks like the league could have its worst season ever, maybe in the 20s? It's really hard to understand what's going on at NIU and Central.

+1. If the bottom six or even the top 6 teams can't retain talent or effectively build / develop then the MAC is in some serious trouble. But, I can imagine programs such as WMU, Central and NIU don't support basketball as much as football or other sports. Also could be cultural issues as well within those programs which might explain the mass exodus from these programs.

The struggles of the directional Michigans & NIU makes me want to revisit my often brought up dream scenario of a super-tight conference and orchestrate a trade with the Horizon League. Those 4 for Youngstown St, Wright St, Cleveland St & Northern Kentucky. I know football and other considerations ruin it, I just have always thought tight geographical conferences are a good thing especially at the mid-major level as the proximity maximizes rivalries and overall buzz.

You nailed it with football. WMU and NIU have brought the MAC BCS appearances in the last decade; giving those schools life in the conference. Otherwise, I agree in theory. With all the P5 conferences realigning

I've asked before - but what would it take for YSU to jump into D1? Other than the proximity to Akron AND Kent, which would potentially lead the AD's to voting against inclusion - if Tressel didn't do it - was there even an appetite to make the leap?

Basketball I think we can and should do that yesterday.

I would imagine the other schools in the league don't want yet another Ohio school to compete against for talent, dollars, etc. Also I think their football stadium would have to be upgraded, unless we're talking just basketball.

So what are we saying here? We're just going to have a league of all Ohio schools plus NKU, Buffalo and Balls? No thanks.

Stambaugh Stadium holds 20,000. It would be the smallest in the MAC, but it's not like they're working with 5,000 or something. Six teams currently have less than 25,000 capacity.

As for your second question... These conference re-alignments are more about finances than anything. Nothing wrong about leaning into what basically becomes a bus-league focused on inter-state rivalries. Not far from what it is currently.

What exactly does a trip to Buffalo offer us that a trip to Youngstown wouldn't provide? Other than I imagine more interest locally.

With that said, I think the scenario of adding anyone outside YSU or NKU/WKU is entirely basketball focused. Not sure how that works.

What would compel Marshall to come back to the MAC now that they've move to the Sunbelt? If anything, a better idea is OHIO moving to the Sunbelt, because right now, I'd say that's a slightly better league than the MAC. Since that's probably not happening soon...

I would jump on the chance to join the Fun Belt immediately, but I'm not sure OU can afford it.

Was just about to post this. Toledo is going to be interesting next season. Maddox, Cochran, and Wight are solid, but also a step down from last season’s big 3.

Depending on where he goes RayJ could be Jaaron 2.0. Grass is not always greener.

The MAC could use all the players it can get the way things are looking. I wouldn't mind having to face him if it helps the conference. His dad played for Marshall. I would be a lot less enthusiastic about the idea of facing him there.

That was my worst fear. Great for the conference, horrible for Ohio to go up against Ali Ali and Freeman as a tandem again.

Not ideal if it happens; but, at least our roster construction (Cornish) is better positioned to defend someone like Ali. I’d still be surprised if he goes back. He just dealt with injuries, his skill-set and size still plays at the P5 level.

At least the MAC would look a bit more passible with Ali Ali back to Akron next season. On that topic, BG just picked up Vanderbilt transfer Trey Thomas. Not a huge stat stuffer but started about half the season for a pretty solid Vanderbilt squad.

I don't know, I feel like LeBron has been pretty quiet on his sons high school career, even when he wasn't playing much as a younger high schooler. He does seem like a loud dad, but I don't know if he'd get too involved as long as he still has his own stuff going on in the NBA. Maybe if he was retired and bored, he would be way more vocal and involved.

I think what Bronny would bring as a player and the national attention he'd bring to your program would be worth the little extra headache.

Anyway, now we're talking about LeBron on this thread and that's 100% my fault. My apologies lol

I believe Bronny could likely be going to USC - was sitting with a few USC athletics staff during the Lakers / Grizzlies game.

You clearly haven't seen videos of his sideline antics. Not unlike his mother's behavior when LeBron was at St. Vincent/St. Mary High School. She had to have her own, roped-off section to keep her from trash talking opposing fans.

I heard SBH and LeBron's mom had epic trash-talking debates back when SVSM played Akron Hoban and SBH's son.

Yeah, I've seen them. I think they're annoying too.

My points are more about LeBron's availability to attend games and whether the antics are worth the return. His ability to attend games will be limited based on his NBA schedule. It isn't like he'll be able to attend every game, or even a majority of games. And I think whatever antics he does end up contributing will be outweighed by the national attention to your program, $$$, and (this remains to be seen, but in my opinion) the positive impact Bronny will make on the floor.

Wouldn’t be shocked if RJ Sunahara is a potential Foster fallback we’ll pursue. From Bay Village. D2 All-American at Nova Southeastern. Lamar and Tommy Schmock of all people liked the Twitter announcement.
