I was all for Toledo winning the MAC tournament after the Ohio game, but quickly switched to Kent after I saw what Todd K did in the live CBS interview after. The reporter referenced 1980 was the last time Toledo made the NCAA Tournament and Todd K walked away pissed during the question. He showed weakness by not listening and answering the question when he thought he was being cool.

Tough pill to swallow for Todd K. Three straight MAC regular season championships and nobody will remember it. In this league, you only remember NCAA Tournament appearances. That’s what happens when it comes down every year to three days in Cleveland in March.

Give me the Georgetown win.
Give me the Michigan win.
Give me the South Florida win.
Give me the almost beating UNC sweet 16 win.
Give me the Virginia win.

Todd K…you can have your multiple NIT appearances.

Their band needs sheet music on their phones to play. For that reason alone, they deserved to lose tonight.

Man, I hate seeing Kant win the conference. Tied with them now for most MAC titles

That's part of the reason I wanted Toledo to win. They probably feel about Cleveland the way we feel about Detroit.

The drought continues which is the only thing I can relish in. Three regular seasons titles for nothing

What a silly reason to root for a different team.

By the way, it is Tod, not Todd.

Mom and Dad must have left the "e" off the end or name messed up by the Ellis Island spell checker?

So we had Row the Boat and now we have Pull the Sled! For you Scrabble guys: tode, "A sled used for hauling logs"

I dun Tode you'al that Toledo would lose to Kent!

Call me crazy...but if you think a coach is a prick, that's a good reason to root for the other team playing against him. But thanks for the advice on how to root for teams.

Long off-season on the way for TK.

Think we are perfectly fine where we are now. We wouldn't stand a CHANCE if we went to Big East or American. Entirely different pond.

The AAC and CUSA are a step down. The Big East doesn’t play football.
The only real option would be to get like minded schools together and form a new conference, oh wait, we already have the MAC.

AAC is not a step down from the MAC. That’s actually laughable.

The new AAC is a step down. Losing UC, Houston and UCF is a major blow. Charlotte, FAU, North Texas, Rice, UAB and UTSA don't come close to replacing the departures.

I don't think it is a step down but I certainly see the argument for a MAC team not accepting a bid to that league if it came along. The CUSA Marshall went to was a step up but due to instability by the time in left it wasn't. Schools like MTSU, WKU left the Sunbelt for CUSA and NMSU for the WAC about ten years ago. The SunBelt said go to hell when they regretted it. This left NMSU without a conference in football entirely.

But the schools that are still there combined with what's coming in make it way better than what the MAC has to offer, and in bigger markets.

Tulane - New Orleans
North Texas/SMU - Dallas/FT. Worth
Charlotte
Rice - Houston
UTSA
Temple - Philly
Memphis

It's basically what Conference USA used to be.

The real problems in the MAC:

The three directional Michigan schools, and NIU. And maybe Akron if they ever lose Coach Groce. EMU and NIU draw no one into their arenas/stadiums, despite being close to decent TV markets and larger cities. Central is probably the best basketball program among those and they never schedule anyone, so losing at CMU is a killer for any team in the MAC. Western hasn't been good for several years....And Akron, they're obviously in trouble financially.

The best thing for the MAC would be to add two schools that have their athletic department in order, like they were trying to do in the last year or so. I still think the opportunity is there because of where C-USA stands. MTSU and WKU would be good additions, and the MAC is a far more stable place to be than C-USA is right now, and probably into the foreseeable future.

The time to do it is now, before options that are geographically sensible end up in other leagues.

I'm all well and good with WKU, but the sentiment from MTSU that I get is that they could care less about improving athletics in general, hence why they've stuck with Stockstill as the football coach for so long. Which is a shame because with their proximity to Nashville, you'd think they'd take full advantage of the growth in the area.

The other issue is if not both of them, who else is even readily available that is attractive at this point?

Youngstown State - Both Akron and Kent would probably say no, and I'm not sure the rest of the MAC is super psyched about yet another Ohio team.

Army - An interesting prospect that could give Buffalo a buddy up in New York, but after seeing what Navy has gone through with the AAC, I'm not sure they'd even been remotely interested in losing their Independence. And their basketball program stinks.

Eastern Kentucky - You'd have to do some heavy, heavy convincing because WKU doesn't want to be paired with them. EKU has the desire to be in a bigger conference though and really wants to move up to FBS in football. They're slated to join the new WAC in 2025, but it's not going to be a bus league by any stretch of the imagination.

North Dakota State - Everyone brings this up, but they're too damn far. We'd have to add three other schools out that way to make it worth while for the entire conference. If we're talking a 16-team Midwest mega conference I'm all ears, but that's never gonna happen.

Southern Illinois - Just like NDSU, SIU is a little remote for the MAC unless other schools were added over that way. NIU would be their closest rival, a mere 5.5 hours away.

Or the MAC goes a completely different route and does a 14-team basketball league, but stays at 12 for football. Which wouldn't be ideal.

Devil's advocate: I think it might be ideal, because it opens up more options that could be appealing.

Problem is with the possible exception of Tulane and Memphis, nobody in those markets cares a whit about those schools athletic programs.
