Hindsight is 20/20, but a lot of us were thoroughly impressed with Sears early on and wanted to see more. That would've meant less minutes for Ben Roderick or Lunden McDay (or Miles Moore who also came off the bench). That was when B-Rod was a bit more dependable from outside, but I don't think it would've been unreasonable to cut minutes from them for Sears.

It still amazes me to think we had Preston, Sears, BVP & DW3 on the same roster. An argument could be made for those being the top 4 most talented Bobcat players in the last decade post-Cooper (all due respect to Tony Campbell & Jaaron Simmons).

Not to mention Jason Carter on that same squad. I'd probably rank Maurice Ndour ahead of all of those bigs as far as talent. He was the victim of two disappointing seasons here.

I've seen crazier things happen.

It's not incorrect to think we actually *underachieved* that year, despite the UVA win.

NBA PG
Alabama SG/PG
UVA PF
Xavier PF

Wild to think back on it.

No, Jason Carter was 21-22 after Preston was gone (& DW was injured). Carter did play 1 season with Preston before his Xavier detour, but that was before DW or Sears.

Now...you could say that if DW had not gotten injured and Preston returned 1 more season rather than go to the NBA, we would have indeed had Preston, Sears, BVP, Carter & DW...4 of which would have been seniors. Mercy.

Sears can follow the footsteps of his protege by entering the NBA draft with one year left of college eligibility. Not sure he has the pedigree but if it's all about the money what is the question ? Oats will get a taste of his own medicine.

Not a chance in hell. Sears doesn't have the size or passing skills of JP.

He's more like Kennedy Chandler who was a mid 2nd round pick and went back and forth between the big team and the g-league this season.

NBA- 2 ppg
G - 16 ppg

By the way, Chandler did not make the Grizz post-season roster.

Does not bode well for similar players.

We had Campbell, who likely would have been in the NBA, Ndour who did play, and Simmons on the roster one year and were pretty bad. Simmons has to redshirt and the roster lacked depth dur to having recruiting classes blown up after coaching changes.
