Gotta think Boals is taking care of IJ at this point. I can respect it, however, he essentially avoided getting into the weeds of this situation and having to take accountability for poor roster management.

Trying to keep that Hargrave connection alive.

Not that I want anyone to lose their job, but I wouldn’t be opposed to swapping Lee for a new assistant who’s tapped into the JUCO ranks. Between Sears leaving us; Wiz and IJ, I’m personally over the Hargrave connection. Lamar is our top assistant and I don’t think we need to double down on Hargrave at this point. We should be trying to open up new channels to acquire talent.

I wrote this and deleted it. Not sure the Hargrave connection has as much draw since the portal has taken over the landscape. Would happily shake it up. Though I think Lee is a great coach. Lamar is my leader in the clubhouse to take over for Boals should *life* happen.

We really need to go hard at the JUCO ranks. Gotta get creative. Gives me heartburn whenever I see someone like Hill at BG playing at such a high level.

I think we need another point guard.

Yes we do.

Sheldon and Reef aren't point guards.

This too. Facilitator, 3PT addition, physical inside presence.

Agreed on Lamar. I also think Lee seems like a great coach and the same can be said for Barlow. Perhaps though, part of our problem is there's too much overlap in backgrounds/experience between all three. Lamar and Lee are both Hargrave, while Barlow and Lamar both spent time at Toledo.

We might just have too many of the same "type" of assistants on our staff who are looking in the same channels for similar recruits. They've had their moments, but we need to diversify our recruiting and are clearly neglecting areas that can help. Someone else might need to be brought in to change that.

Same on the JUCO. I follow the recruiting sites on Twitter. It seems like every program in the country but us is offering players at that level.

1-20-2024 Update (Home vs EMU)

Bahamas Ezuma in street clothes.

First week of new semester classes in the books.

Truly pathetic.

1-23-2024 Update (at Akron)

Bahamas Ezuma is not on the bench.

No doubt Bahamas is in the library studying tonight with the goal of being academically eligible for the 26-27 season.

This line of thinking reminds me of something I have said in the past about prior OU football and basketball regimes: If your assistant coaches aren't occasionally being poached by other bigger programs, or to eventually be a head coach, maybe the right guys aren't in place.

What is ridiculous is having a guy on scholarship not play one minute of basketball for two seasons. And that player was supposed to be a significant contributor this year with no explanation from the head coach as to why he’s not playing.

That is ridiculous.

Correct.

Need we remind ourselves that our two 5’s combined for THREE rebounds. Again tonight.

This head coach doesn't owe you shit when it comes to an explanation. He owe's that player and his family whatever promises he gave to them. On the other hand, your consistent comments regarding OU players and coaches over the years says EVERYTHING. You spend more time putting down this program than supporting it.

You’ve lost me here. In a different thread you rip the program overall for how bad it is. Then here you are ripping me for ripping the program. Will the real OUCountry please stand up?

Your points are fair. The reason the overall program lags (that you bitched about) is no one challenges it. They face zero scrutiny. There’s 35 loyal fans on this board (maybe) and that’s it. No media. No blogs. No pods. Nothing. If we were a real D1 program and a recruit that was supposed to contribute and give us much needed size sat for 2 years the howls would be deafening. Hell, even our own play-by-play announcer of nearly 20 years went on record a few weeks ago and said he is not a reporter and he will not ask Jeff Boals about the Bahamas Ezuma situation. Are you effing kidding me?

Also, you have no idea what I do or don’t for this program. Bottom line is the program is frustrating as hell. No one wants to turn into a Ball State.

I spend more than half my time on this thread defending Boals, BUT

On the contrary, this head coach at a public university does owe *everyone* an explanation for the trajectory of the season, its current players, and the future of the program.

As do all coaches. That's half of being a coach.

1-30-2024 Update (Home to Buffalo)

Bahamas Ezuma dancing during intros and back on the bench in sweats next to Nicol.

A guy on full scholarship has missed 53 consecutive games.

Yet...here you are...coming back for more and always commenting. I doubt I'm the only one who finds it odd that we have a much needed big man on scholarship who has sat on the bench in street clothes with a smile on his face for 53 straight games and we have no explanation as to why he hasn't played one second of basketball during this time.

The Bahamas watch continues.

A nation waits.

Any attempted joke from FearLeon feels like Shooter McGavin's 'He spends more time in the sand than David Hasselhoff' joke in Happy Gilmore. Someone laughed once and so he continues to go to the well.

And before someone who hasn't seen the movie gets upset, it's a Shooter reference, I'm not calling out Kevin.
