Kendall Crute maybe?

Every once in a while I like to think back on the short-termers that have passed through the program. Mo Pearson (of bb gun fame), DJ Wingfield, Kadeem Green, Kenny Belton, Ken Ottrix, the emergency football fill-ins back in the O'Shea era.

You could actually do a "what could have been" team out of many of the names on this list. Add in guys who didn't succeed here but did succeed elsewhere (I seem to think Ethan Jacobs finished up with a pretty decent final year or two at Colgate). Toss in Ryan Taylor, DJ Wingfield, Steven Coleman, Jeremy Fears -- among others. In looking at some of the names to post I found our opener in 2014....Wadley Mompremier was the starter and hit a 3, drove to the hoop, had a dunk stickback -- looked like a superstar. How did dude never end up getting time?

Mompremier started 7 of 88 college games. Played in 30 games his last year at OHIO. After his transfer he never played much more than he did at OHIO

Wadly battled Crohn's disease hard during his time here. When he was able to go, he looked great.

Wanna keep going?

Rio Adams, Tony Chatman, Stacey Waters, Mike Harris, Frankie Dobbs, Joe Mitchell, Marvin Price, Rodney Culver (Lotta guards, huh?), Zach Butler, TK.

Crohn's disease sucks. I'll have to see if I can find highlights of this kid. Also rewatched our 1994-95 NIT tournament highlights where we beat Ohio State in St John. Love telling my dad (OSU alum 92-96) about how we beat them then, LOL!

Well Shab, my comment was about players that left competitive basketball completely after leaving Ohio... On top of Horne and Coleman, it looks like Kendall Crute did not make it to another school either. No doubt, I wasn't clear enough with my wording.

Also, I am glad Lunden got a chance to be a part of something great during his time here at Ohio. Like Coach Boals says, that team is bonded for life... Best of luck to Lunden and, once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat!

Oh yeah, and one last thing... Go Bobcats!

Though we have been given almost no information about the situation, I feel like we may be able to infer some things. It sounds like the door is open for Lunden to return whenever he is ready. That tells me that whatever's going on, it is truly personal life stuff, and probably not something that generated from the team or the school. If not starting bothered him to the point that he takes a leave, I'd like to think Boals would pull a John Groce to KJ Walton and tell him it's best that he leave. If you can't buy into the ebbs and flows of the main rotation, then it is to find a new team. I wish Lunden all the best in whatever it is and hope to see him return soon.

Yeah, to me it doesn't sound like, "I don't like my role", "I don't get along with a teammate", "I'm tired of playing basketball", "I need to focus on academics" or anything like that. I don't have any information but to me it has more of the feel of something bad has happened to someone he is close to or something else along those lines that makes him feel the need to be home rather than at school. Again, I have no information than just the way Boals worded some things so don't take that as anything more than that. I just hope everything turns out well for him.

Horne salvaged a decent career at Cal State Fullerton. I don't think Crute even made it to campus. One that really bewilders me is Rodney Culver. He seemed to vanish from the planet completely.

Tough to understand quitting on the team after a handful of games, but hopefully he is able to get whatever is going on in his personal life in order.

You forgot Greg Cobb. Olmsted Falls to OHIO to CSU and became at the time the CSU all time leading scorer.

Legand has it that he missed his girl friend who I believe was still in high school. His dad was an OU grad and kind of a Press Maravich type father who about disowned him for pining for his sweetie. I could have the details wrong but that is what I recall from him skipping out during his freshman year of 1974 at OHIO.

Rodney’s story after Ohio: https : https://www.dailyeasternnews.com/2020/01/24/culver-finds-... /

That’s an older article but it looks like he had to battle some health issues… He did speak well of Ohio even after the split.

Has McDay's departure been confirmed?

JSF, Nope. Let's just say, with all posts assuming Lunden's departure, they should start with the disclaimer: If the rumors are true. And if we are wrong, we will all be happy to be so. :)

As much as I am a fan of Coach Boals, he frustratingly plays his cards close to the vest. No doubt it protects the players privacy and gives less info to opposing teams which may be of benefit to the team overall. For instance, I hadn't a clue that DW3 had suffered a serious injury to his knee early in the offseason. BTC tried to tell us in his own cryptic, hard to interpret way but, it was not revealed by the coaching staff until almost the start of practice. Maybe, like waiting for test results from the doctor or, kids at Christmas, the waiting is the hardest part. (SO to Tom Petty)

Go Bobcats!

Edit: Added test results simile

Kind of think when the family gets on here and tells you he’s left the team and school that yeah, that’s kind of confirmation. But whatever.

I did not know that was posted by a family member either. Thanks for the additional info BTC… Not official but, gives the source a bit more credibility for sure.

Nor should any of us known. Nothing in the post says it is a family member, only someone that certainly appears to know him. But whatever.

Wadly did have health issues. May have been the best kid in the world but he had hands of stone....couldn't catch a basketball to save his life.

I’m stunned by McDay leaving. Like, most stunning walk away in a long long long time. Hope he ends up with a degree from somewhere….

FWIW, there's something to be said about battling through adversity, whatever the circumstances are, to finish the season with your teammates of 3+ years and obtaining that degree. To be able to prove to yourself that you can overcome hurdles in your life, no matter how high, and still find success would certainly be a life lesson that would stick for a long, long time.

All student athletes are hit with adversity in some capacity and that can be defining moments of their young lives.
