Coaches jump for big paydays (as always) and now players will be further poached away. Mid-Majors have always suffered loss due to success (see John Groce and Shaheen Holloway). At least now the coaches are not the only ones benefiting from success on the court.

Couldn't have been said better.

Removed Sparks as hes staying with Ball St.

https://twitter.com/PaytonSparks6/status/1509942725730263041

Added Saleh (UB), Bandaogo (Akron), Lopez (CMU). Lopez appears to have transferred from DePaul to CMU. Guess that means he has to sit a year?

Got our first transfer in that I remember seeing. 6'2" PG Dante Maddox Jr. to Toledo from Cal St. Fullerton. Rivals had him as a 3 star. Maddox played in 23 games and averaged 6.8 points (on .423 FG/.250 3P/ .714 FT shooting), 2.6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 turn over and just under 1 steal per game in 19.3 minutes /game. More guard depth for the Rockets.

According to Verbal Commits Miami has two added to the portal in addition to the Kent transfer DeVale Johnson referenced above.

Dae Dae Grant, 6-2 So PG
Myja White, 6-1 RS So PG

Edit to add - Balls also gets a transfer in

Luke Brown, 6-2 Fr PG from Stetson (2 star)

With PG Dante Maddox coming into Toledo, would be a further possibility that they lose frosh PG Jamere Hill? We could capitalize on this if recruiting Toussaint and Curbelo don't pan out.

Jeff, I don't think Luke Brown played in 1 game for Stetson this year. Started the year there as a true frosh before leaving and returning home to Indiana and Ball St. Was a backup pt guard and played in both games against Ohio.

Now we're just throwing out names.

Toussaint and Curbello are not coming to Athens. We have about as much chance with either of those two and we did at this time last year when Curbello's teammate Kofi Cockburn went into the portal.

And probably no interest in Hill.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking of Stetson's Josh Smith rather than Luke Brown. Smith is an Indiana native, too.

Yep - Brown transferred from Stetson to Balls this year. Guess he's still on the VC list because he transferred in "this year". Probably disregard his name from the "off-season" transfer cycle (whatever that means anymore) we're tracking here.

Probably not, but we might as well try to have a backup plan if Sears ultimately decides to pull the trigger on one of his offers.

Million dollar question—who do we have fully invested in working the transfer portal if everyone’s energy is focused on a new gig that could include the entire staff? Additionally, who transfers to a place where nobody is sure who the coach is going to be? I venture to guess that we’re behind the 8-ball on all fronts.

I'm definitely paying attention to Ball State and their efforts this offseason and upcoming season. Lewis seems like the guy to want to create a winning culture there again. Only thing I have to say, the O-Zone will be awaiting their return >:)

What's our chances of picking one of up? Both are PG's, with Dae Dae being a very solid PG. Myja doesn't have much stats to talk about.

Toledo got Dante Maddox from Cal St Fullerton. That's the only one so far.

I would say the possibility of a Miami player transferring to our hoops team is next to zero. I'm sure there have been some.. but the most recent OU transfer to come from another MAC school was Bubba Walther I believe in 2006 from Akron. OU doesn't often poach transfers from other MAC schools.

Miami owes us one . . . or we owe them one (depending on how you look at it)! frown

My question based on only one portal player transferring to the MAC… Does any good player really want to come to this league?

Been sick the last few days so havent kept this updated as much as I'd like. Heres whats changed since my last update with who I see in the Portal currently: (Sorry that some of it is old news)

- Added DeVale Johnson (KSU), Dae Dae Grant (Miami) and Myja White (Miami)

- Basheer Jihad returns to Ball State. (I heard Sellers is returning but hes still listed in the portal.)

- Nicolas Pavrette (CMU) is no longer listed in the portal.

- Yazid Powell (PG) to Buffalo from Harcum College (JUCO).
