AJ Brown as Freshman of the year…

Kent State falls apart due to their new coaching addition…

I have far fewer conniption fits due to more makes on front ends of one and ones…

BTW, I missed last years prediction of greatest ft percentage swing in both offense and defense. It was an improvement on our end though… Did you know our ft. made percentage has gone up every year under Coach Boals? Both Hunter and Baker should shoot them well so, let’s see if the Bobcats can make it four in a row!

Go Bobcats!

OHIO will adopt the Elam ending for all home games, and go undefeated due to the massive crowds that grace the Convo.

Some actual predictions:

-- Our leading scorer will average less than 14ppg.

-- Of our top four leading scorers, none will have been on the roster last year

-- Gabe Wiznitzer will play less than 10 minutes per game

-- Despite the appearance of a deep roster, by the MAC tournament Boals will be down to a 7 man rotation

-- Dwight Wilson is our best player this year by a healthy margin

-- Probably correct. Though I think there is some room there for AJ to go Mark Sears nightly.

-- If DW is our best player this year, I hope to the basketball gods he is in our top four scorers.

-- DW3 will be in the running for MAC PoY. That will probably keep Wiz on the bench a lot of nights. Especially with Boals proclivity for going small ball. (Habit or necessity? We may find out pretty quickly)

-- Again, hard to tell if it's habit or necessity, but the roster does *appear* deeper than most years. I'm not sure there is a GUY quite yet, so it might take all of our non-conference schedule to establish a set rotation, and floor leader.

If I had to make a bold prediction...

Hunter
Miles
AJ
Clayton
DW3

Brod
Baker
Wiz

IJ/Elmore/Hadaway/Adeldoun battle out for the 5 minutes or so a game.

Top 5 bold predictions (hopes)
1. AJ Brown leads the team in scoring
2. DW 3 averages 12 and 8
3. Ajay Sheldon gets run as a backup PG for 5 mpg
4. Elmore James gets run for 5 mpg
5. Adelodun becomes a serviceable defender and bench guy

If Elmore James only gets 5 minutes per game, we have a serious problem.

Where do you see him fitting in?

Jaylin Hunter (starting PG)
Miles Brown (3-year rotation guy, started SG last season, gets more min every season)
AJ Brown (probable leading scorer)
Roderick (has nudes of the president)
Devon Baker (A senior transfer who I've only heard good things about, could also start at PG)

Elmore...

A six guard rotation?

Knowing Boals only goes 6 deep a lot of nights, that seems ambitious.

Jaylin Hunter will play a ton and so will AJ and DeVon. Miles has proven to be a great glue guy who will "D" up and not worry about scoring. B-Rod may lose his minutes to EJ4, that I can see. I don't want that to happen because B-Rod has been an exemplary Bobcat, but at some point Boals is going to have to say "put up or clear the way."

This truly made me laugh. We had no choice but to keep letting Roderick brick threes last year. This year...more talent to push him. The leash has to be very short this year. He has to knock down shots or the minutes are gone.

Truly hope Rod steps into that super senior leadership role on the floor and elsewhere. Him and Miles are gonna be a major piece this season. And they NEED to be.

Might be an unpopular opinion given their longevity; but, I think Rod and Miles are best served this season leading the second unit. I just feel AJ Brown and Baker are superior to both talent-wise and should be starting.

If Miles Brown improves as much this year as he did last year, he belongs on the floor.

Define “improves as much this year as he did last”. He went from 4.5 ppg off the bench in 20/21 to 6.9 ppg as a starter last season and only scored in double-figures nine times in thirty three starts. Not exactly a huge leap. I watched every game I could, I’m not going to pin the lack of Miles’ production on Sears/BVP/Carter being “ball stoppers”. Plenty of opportunities for Miles to be that consistent 4th scorer in double-figures and he just wasn’t.

There is more to the game than scoring points.

Sure, but what else did he excel at that warrants starting again? His calling card out of HS was scoring and it’s not as though he was an above average defender, either. I like Miles, just as a role player and not as a starter when there are other options.
