BVP was AWESOME and it was a huge win for Virginia. I think even if his success continues, they will keep him in that 6th man role. We all know some nights his shot is unstoppable while others it is just not there. He's the perfect player for that spot.

Went to both games Virginia played last weekend in the continental tire tourney in Vegas and BVP fits well on a great Virginia team. Lets the game come to him. Was terrific on the boards in both games and never forced much barring shot clock winding down. He will have a good year for them.

Not a good shooting night for Sears (2 for 10, 0 for 4 from 3) but 5 Reb, 5 Ast, and 0 TO in a win over #12 Mich St. #20 UConn is up today in the PKI semifinals, then likely #1 UNC in the Championship. There is a piece on ESPN with Sears as the thumbnail talking about how good Alabama is.

Depending on how things go, both Virginia & Alabama could be top 5 in the nation come Monday.

Will continue to follow how Sears performs against better competition. This is where the doubt creeps in with him. Quinnerly is now back from ACL injury. Would not surprise me come SEC play that Quinnerly is inserted into the starting rotation and Sears gets 15-20 minutes off the bench.

Well from the 2 games against good competition (Michigan State & UCONN)...

Combined 5-18 from 2pt, 1-8 from 3pt. He's still a surprisingly good rebounder for a guard though, averaging 5 per game.

Gonna see his minutes slowly disappear. We’ve seen this movie before against quality competition.

Versus pretty good competition (UNC) Sears gets the start and finishes the first half with 14 pts, hitting 4 of 5 from 3, with 4 assists.

He shut me up with the big game theory today. Well played today. Still wish he handled his departure from Ohio with more humbleness and class.

Can you clarify how he should have handled his departure? Maybe you could write a guide and copy-rite it, and capitalize for years to come.

Sure…maybe not have your AAU coach do the announcement for you. Perhaps send out a message on social media showing some appreciation for the school and coaches that helped get you to Alabama. See how BVP handled his departure. It’s not hard.

So Sears didn't handle his exit smoothly by thanking the school. Are you sure any of us would have handled that situation well at 20 years old? Who knows what he was hearing from people inside and outside the program as he was making the decision to leave? There may have been bad feelings expressed by others that he didn't handle well. Separations obviously can be hard and are easy to screw up for all involved and then you add the public into a situation like this and have people saying Sears isn't good enough to succeed at a place like Alabama. As a kid, I'm not sure I would have handled this smoothly either. Who knows what advice he was getting that may have been different than what Ben received?

I'm not surprised to see Sears succeed as a player at Alabama. At Ohio, he struggled at times as opponents focused their entire defense on him. That won't happen at Alabama.

He was the star of the UNC win. Not sure those minutes will be going away.

Don’t think it would have been asking too much of a 20 year old kid to have said a thank you his school, his coaches and his teammates for his time here. His departure seemed like I’m chasing the money and brighter lights so see y’all later suckers. From the outside it always appeared to me he was treated fairly and respectfully during his time here. That said I wish both Mark and BVP well on their new teams and I’ve got to see them both occasionally this season. I was surprised BAMA didn’t run a play thru him in the OT’s as hot as he was from 3 yesterday. It was a classic and I think Mark and Ben will play significant roles for their teams as the season progresses. Will enjoy watching them both.

I don't think you can really compare how BVP left and how Sears left at all. BVP was an Ohio lifer and was in Athens more than half a decade.

Between Jim Christian, Saul Phillips, Jaaron Simmons and now Mark Sears I'm not sure which sour grapes you guys like to treat yourselves to more.

Many (though not all) of the people insisting that Sears should have handled his departure with more class handled Sears' departure with very little class themselves.

People here criticized his Mom publicly. They said he didn't care about education or family. They said he only cared about money. Called him Jaaron Simmons 2.0.

Out of one side of their mouths, they insisted that Sears show OU loyalty, and then out of the other, criticized his game and started actively rooting against his success wherever he ended up.

Notably, most of those criticisms began before Sears made his choice or announcement, so the "he didn't handle his decision with class" is a retroactive justification.

Never had a problem with him leaving and chasing the bag in a power 5. Such is the world we live in now with college athletics. Just think he could have handled it better walking out the door. We will agree to disagree.

BINGO

The criticism of his departure is fair. Fans have a right to express opinions.

Last I checked, there was no formal announcement. He took the approach that he didn't owe OU anything, which I believe is why his decision was met with harshness. He could've saved some face by issuing a statement and owning his decision to leave (instead of having others do it for him). There was no closure at all.

Rooting for him to fail is a moral issue that only those who share this sentiment need to cope with.

That being said, not sure I remember seeing anybody actively root for him to fail? I've seen some comments stating he was a non-factor in big games for us (me included) but not sure I can point to any specific post celebrating his failures.

This back-and-forth debate has me pondering which carries more weight - BTC's "BINGO" or FearLeon's "+1,000".

Of course, the "+1,000,000" occasionally seen here on BA trumps both.
