Go watch the highlights ... Bates had 29 consecutive points.

29 consecutive - Holy Wow! Ended up w/43 - 9/14 from 3 - But they still lost to Toledo...

DW3 of course had a monster game tonight. I attribute the win to a Team effort that included Boals recent stated priorities - Urgency & Deflections. Those translate a lot to limit turnovers (Excellent tonight only 5), and play with determination (Loved Miles Brown deflection at half court late game!).

Toledo won by 5.

However NIU beat Kent by 10 in DeKalb. WTF.

Goodbye any at-large thought for Kent.

Hate to see it.

The quality of the ESPN+ broadcasts from the Convo has never been great, but man it’s getting so bad. I hope to MAC considers moving to another platform when this deal is up.

It's so embarrassing but I doubt it's espn plus'fault. This is a production issue. Which is handled by the University. It's been this way for years and has never gotten better. Doesn't anyone in the athletic department listen to this shit and wonder how it could be better?

How is it that the nat sound on the radio broadcast is so much better?

We've discussed this for years. For being regarded as one of the best broadcasting/communications schools in the country, our ESPN+ product is underwhelming on the production side. Nobody who helps coordinate these broadcasts seems to care. With that said, I'm just glad we get the opportunity to watch just about every game even with crappy sound and video work.

2 down...3 to go in this crucial 5 game stretch.

Great to see AJ Brown get his mojo back.
Wilson is a bull...an absolute bull.
Elmore couldn't get it going, but Boals really limited him and he never got the chance to get in a rhythm. I really think this is when Boals tinkers too much. Baker was ineffective and I would have given James more of a run.
Great to see the Whiz score for the first time in five games and he only had one moving screen. Baby steps.
Thought this was Jaylin Hunter's best overall game of the season. We desperately need more of this moving forward out of him.
On to Akron. Have to find a way to go 4-1 in this 5 game stretch.

Nice team win, and monster game for Wilson. What I don’t get is the inconsistency that you see. No way of knowing who will step up game to game, doesn’t matter when you win I guess.

Mr. Dwight Wilson III, wow! That's a 1st team all-MAC performance.

We're winning the games we should. Keep grinding, Bobcats!

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

DW3 is so fun to watch, it breaks my heart that this is his final year. The touch around the rim is so refreshing in an era where no one else can seem to hit another but an outside spot up jumper. Looked a little less exhausted tonight than his performance vs Kent, hopefully the stamina is coming around. He only had 29 minutes, imagine if he were able to go 35+.

Happy to see Wiz with 2 nice baskets but let's not get too excited, he was at his usual foul rate with emphasis on off-ball fouls...4 fouls in 10 minutes. He also managed to commit 40% of the team's turnovers in his limited appearance.

Only 5 turnovers all night, I could get used to that. Of course CMU & WMU are bottom tier defenses in the league, but taking that good care of the ball is a good development I hope sticks.

I get the rapid catch and shoot is a valuable skill but we have to recognize when it significantly decreases performance. Some of the threes AJ Clayton shoots are the most mechanically awful shots you'll ever see. Just catch and hoist with no regard for balance and form. This is where if I were coach Boals, I would have an analytics guy do a deep dive to show Clayton's 3 point percentage by 3 categories...rapid release, medium, and plenty of time. I am confident it would show everyone he needs to knock off the flick shots. It would also show when properly spotted up he is a tremendous 3 point shooter. Nothing speaks louder than data.

Another thing that needs to stop - Our bigs on defense awkwardly going to the top of the key to do some sort of disruption then stumbling back. We gave them several easy buckets because DW or Wiz were busy doing on a detour for some sort of double teaming of a guard.

Like a chronically abused wife, I am all-in on Ben Roderick's outside shot being back...he looks good and comfortable. He is at 43.4% on the season. Let's get him more minutes and spot him up like it's March 2021. He also mixes in the occasional drive to the hoop and always shows good hustle.

Crazy that Miles does not get a single bucket to follow the CMU performance. I feel like his shot is either unstoppable or off a lot, but he always plays good defense and helps out in other ways. EJ4 no points also is crazy. Jaylin a very efficient night shooting, smart shot selection only 1 dumb turnover that I remember. He & Roderick's shots to go with DW3 being an animal were the keys.

Akron will be a tough game, good chance for a huge win. I think they will overly key in on DW and we need to have Hunter, Roderick & the Brown Bros spot and and drain their open threes. Simple as that.

Getting to enjoy a second season of Dwight Wilson is a bonus. Once he was declared eligible in the fall of 2020, we probably thought we'd get only one year, but he is in his third year in the program and second playing. He's even better than he was in 2021 and that year was a big jump in his production compared to his time at JMU. He's at a higher scoring and rebounding average than he was two seasons ago while playing even fewer minutes.

AJ Brown had a very good night. 6-10 from the field and only one of those makes being from three. His growth in slashing to the rim is just going to further open up his pullup and step back game.

Agreed on Clayton. The three point trigger is just too fast and often somewhat guarded and in the middle of the shot clock.

This is probably the deepest team of Boals' tenure in terms of just having several options of capable players. 10 players got minutes last night in what was mostly a close game - nine getting double digit minutes. We will need a certain level of production from our off-ball guards and there are enough options to find a ride a hot hand. Miles Brown follows a career game with a 0 FGM, AJ Brown gets you 16. The Browns combine for only 5 at Toledo but Elmore gets you 21. Hadaway and Adelodun are capable enough to be in a rotation if needed but on this roster, unfortunately, they are 11 and 12 on the bench.

If the internet is correct, Wilson turned 26(?!) on New Year's Day. He certainly looks the part, he is man amongst boys out there. Fun to watch him overpower guys in the post

I've seen crazier things happen.

Those last few posts by you guys are good observations in IMO. I am finally seeing DW3 rolling down off those high screens. Our bigs have to start rolling down Quicker! on those. The difference has been noticeable. I hope it continues. Props to the looks BRod took advantage of! dig that role. Clayton needs more of an inside/out presence rather than lofting everything up from the perimeter. Beat CrAkron! very plausible!

Yes if the lot is not yet full. Prolly park closer to Convo than most who have Blue lot passes like I do (and often end up parking closer to Seaman's than the Convo)

Agreed. I have blue lot passes, but we park at Peden instead because it’s actually closer and takes less time to get from our car into the Convo. Our blue lot passes get us into the Peden lot. The attendants often tell us, “You could park in the blue lot,” like we are stupid and not aware of that. We just reply, “We like this lot better.” The attendants usually just shrug their shoulders and let us in.
