Going to be interesting to see how many we lose in the portal. You can see Jaylin Hunter chuckle in the post game interview when someone asked him about the team next year.

He did say that this experience playing in the MAC tournament will help him and others be ready for next year.

"NCAA adopted legislation that allowed a one-time transfer between Division I schools with no redshirt year." Would someone, like the rising star Hunter, really consider sitting out a year or even choose to transfer down? As for the others on the team, who knows!

I could envision players being involved heavily in recruiting as time goes by. Someone like Hunter getting on social media to reach out to former opponents or teammates and letting them know their services combined would put a team into a potential run, either conference or the Dance.

I am more concerned that AJB is able to heal his injury. Watched him gingerly walk up the steps to exit the Zips/Flashes game after leaving it all on the court.

Might just be me, but listening to the way that Boals, Hunter, and James answered some of those questions about next year (e.g. Boals saying he has to "re-recruit" his guys), I feel like they already have an idea of some players who could be hitting the portal.

Hope I'm wrong and it's not any of Hunter, James, AJB, or Miles.

I would throw IJ into that also. I think his presence this year would have helped.

I have no idea if IJ is the world's happiest person and teammate, or totally disgruntled. All I know is, it would be pretty weird for a guy to be upset about playing time and decide to enter the portal in a year he was injured and medically redshirted. Kinda hard to get PT in those circumstances don't ya think?

While they may have a sense of where certain players are leaning, I don't want to make any assumptions on which players could enter the transfer portal.

Hunter talked about playing in the MAC Tournament again next year. Plus, he's already transferred once which could potentially factor into his decision this offseason.

Elmore James didn't discuss anything about the portal. Boals addressed it during his final question but was stating the obvious, mentioning that you sit down and figure things out with your players a week after the season concludes and re-recruit everyone.

In the current state of college basketball, that's just the way it is. You can only look at things one year at a time.

Ohio will likely have players transferring out like the majority of programs now. This "appears" to be a close knit team from what I've seen up close in person and I feel confident about the direction of this squad moving forward regardless of what happens this offseason.

If I had to guess, I would be inclined to believe Elmore James, AJ Brown and Hunter will all return next season.

I sat near some extended family of James during the quarterfinals and they said he loves it at Ohio. Reading the body language of AJ and Hunter, it "appears" they're enjoying playing for the Bobcats as well.

Obviously we'll know more in the upcoming weeks.

Yazid Powell and Kidtrell Blocker from Buffalo both hit the portal today.

With Whitesell out they may not be the last.

With the portal you are always re-recruiting your guys, every single year you have to spend more time on them than you did when you brought them in the first time. That's just nature of the beast, and Jeff has made that statement from the beginning of the NIL game.

I have noticed the portal tracking sites are often a few days behind.

Per Jeff Goodman, Kevin Miller at CMU has gone portaling. Averaged 18.5 points and 5.3 assists in only 4 games this year.

Looks like he entered the portal last year after his freshman season, but ultimately returned to CMU.

That makes CMU's three best guards gone.

Gotta go back to that Reggie Bass announcement. In addition to getting the school's name wrong, he points out it was "nothing but love" from all the coaches. So... why ya leaving?

Because, the Mid Major scene is like a starter job in your new profession, now you look to move up and more opportunities. That's what it has become.
