Interesting, this got me thinking. I'm curious if NBA scouts are using the portal/NIL as a tool to get better looks at prospects?

If I were a scout that wants to know if a kid at a mid-major has a legitimate shot at the NBA, I would be suggesting that they attempt to transfer up and face "better" competition and also make a buck they likely weren't making at their mid-major.

Seems like that would be a pretty easy sell to a kid with NBA dreams.

When Preston looked into the NBA, I worried that if the scouts told him he wasn't yet ready that they would advise him to move up in competition. We'll never know and I'm grateful that JP is making his money in the league. Hope that he's able to hold on with the Clippers or someone else.

Campbell's Jay Pal committed to San Diego State. SDSU also hosted Javonte Brown for a visit in April. Not knowing the Aztecs' scholarship situation, maybe they'll back off Brown if they haven't already.

Creates a barrier to playing time for Brown, at a minimum. I just looked at his IG; to see if anyone new from Ohio followed. Miles and Lamar still do, but it looks like Boals’ son no longer does.

Thought he was as good as committed to Illinois, but then he took visits to Michigan and Baylor. Still, I bet he's heading to Illinois, just playing all his cards, seeing what everyone is willing to give him.

Does Dennis have some ties to Illinois? At a glance, Michigan makes a lot of sense for him. They're losing Howard and Bufkin, so I'd think there's a great opportunity for Dennis to get major minutes at UM.

He's from suburban Chicago, 100 miles or so outside UI.

IJ was not hurt last year. He was redshirted for class management purposes. When I asked about his offensive skills, Boals replied, "Work in progress." Honestly, he was far more positive on Wiz -- said he has the skills but simply needs to slow down. Predicts he'll make significant progress over the summer.

I’m not going to say Wiz will ever be great but he’s certainly a D1 player and would have success in a smaller conference. At Ohio, he’ll be a rotational player who will hopefully become less of a detriment on the floor this year.

Respect the take...that's what this board is all about. And damn...I hope I am wrong about this, but up to this point, The Whiz isn't a D1 player and he'd have trouble finding success in the MEAC. Nobody can go into next season feeling good about the prospects of The Whiz being in the rotation.

Hahaha. You continually trash Wiznitzer, yet the guy you have worshipped, our head coach, has produced zilch to bring in a better big man. Anything more need be said? It's mid-May and the clock continues to tick.

And nobody can feel good about going into next season with no one recruited from the portal. Thus, if Wiz is on the floor next winter it's for a reason. Either he stepped up or Boals failed. Or both.

Jerry....good to see ya chime in on the portal thread. Just curious...are you still taking those "I love Saul" crazy pills? Are you still sending him Christmas cards?

For the record, I've only worshipped four people in my life: Dad, Tony Dorsett, Gary Trent and Scarlett Johansson. For a guy that you think I "worship", I sure do rip Boals a ton when it comes to in-game coaching decisions and for swings and misses on the recruiting trail. Everyone on this board knows I criticize Boals. Just like I criticized Larry, O'Shea, Groce, Christian and your boy Saul.

You are correct about one thing. If The Whiz is in the rotation next winter, Boals has failed big-time with recruiting this position. And I mean big-time. It's actually the smartest thing you've ever said on Bobcat Attack.

Enjoy your annual summer vacation with the Phillips family (I hear Aberdeen, SD is really nice between June 16-18). Go Northern State! I see the Wolves are killing it in the portal!

I smile, or actually laugh, when I see your posts full of so much anger and frustration. Just to set things straight .. I don't love Saul. I thought he was a good coach who had the misfortune of some significant injuries to players while here in Athens. He also was the kind of coach I like to see in the community. Not sure if Boals is still living in suburban Columbus or not but coaches like Nee and Saul certainly were positives locally I feel.

I "get" your frustration. A big man can't seem to attract a big man to play for him. Thus, your outbursts.

Sorry to disappoint you but my summer is in Maine.

I will put my money on Boals being an Ohio basketball alum as having a bigger impact on the Athens community than Saul ever did...no matter where Boals currently lives. Listen Jerry....I get it....I'm sorry that your former neighbor Saul is now residing back in North Dakota. That's a tough break, but maybe he'll come visit you in Maine this summer. You did forward Saul your Kennebunkport address correct?

And just to "set things straight"....I'm not angry and frustrated. In four years, Boals has an NCAA Tourney win and an NBA draft pick on his resume. Yes...he developed JP...not Saul. Remember, your boy Saul kept JP on the bench only to play behind another PG who every game shot 2-12 and committed 7 turnovers.

Keep rooting against Boals Jerry and ask yourself if Ohio basketball is better today than it was prior to Boals arrival? I'll hang up and listen.

I'll say 2 things and leave you be. I'll bet a lot of dollars I've contributed more to Ohio Athletics than you have, or ever will. Second, how many times did you play in the Convo in front of locals and students?

Deal with FACTS. Boals has been unable to recruit a BIG man. If you're proud of his recruits then we will have to agree to disagree.

FACTS are FACTS.

I'll say 2 things and leave you be because you've gone down in flames in this thread. I'm not about to compare checking accounts with you. I'm proud of how much I love this program and how much money I contribute on a yearly basis to the men's basketball program. Second, I spent many nights/days inside the Convo supporting and cheering on this basketball program. Gary Trent even let me score a lay-up over him so that's cool. I know it's not like dunking over Ball State's Dan Palombizio like you did in 1986, but it will do.

On the recruiting trail, Boals has hit some homers and he has some whiffs. Hopefully, he gets it right with the incoming big man. But you have this weird obsession with Saul vs Boals that make many people on this board think that you want Boals to fail. I know it must hurt greatly that Boals took the program to an NCAA tournament and Saul didn't.

Take the "L" and move on Jerry.

FACTS are FACTS

Live a life of denial. I've "gone down in flames" here? LOL. When, if ever, we bring in a QUALITY big man for next year I'll be happy to respond to your drivel. Ask yourself WHY others here wish you'd kinda like shut up? Trust me, it's not just me.

Your obsession with Saul is worrisome. Who is comparing Saul to Boals? Direct question. Not me.

Lastly, I've spent more days and hours in the convo than you ever will, both playing and following the teams in later years.

Your constant attacks on obscure issues shows a lot of insecurity. Let go of Saul and whatever lingering issues you have. He's moved on and is doing well.

Just let me know when you can sleep at night after we have someone to replace Wiznitzer.

Jerry...I'll give ya credit. You're like Rocky Balboa and refuse to stay down for the 10 count. From day one, you rooted against Boals and wanted him to fail. You made that perfectly clear. That was very, very odd. Especially coming from someone like you who is one of the great Bobcat hoops players of all-time. And your idiotic statement that Boals isn't connected with the Athens community is ludicrous my man. Jeff Boals is an Ohio alum who played on one of the greatest Ohio basketball teams of all-time. You can question Boals on many things, but one thing you can't question is his loyalty to Ohio basketball and Athens.

The difference between you and me when it comes to your boy Saul vs Boals is that I never rooted against Saul when he was hired. I was 100% all in on your boy and said that from the first day he was hired. Schaus tried to catch lightning in a bottle with Saul after one NCAA Tourney win against Oklahoma and unfortunately it didn't work out. Midway through year four, you could see it wasn't going to end well and unfortunately we had to suffer through a miserable year five of Saul as well. A final year where he played Kirk over Preston....my god.

And judging from the private messages that I get from great Bobcat fans on this board, I actually I don't think anyone wants me to shut up. Trust me....this is fact. I don't look at this program through green colored glasses. I tell it like it is...the good and the bad and I can tell you that people on this board respect that. And since you are one of Ohio's all-time great basketball alums, get the Whiz to Maine this summer and work on his footwork. This would truly be the greatest contribution you could ever make to the Ohio Men's basketball program.

That is so amazing for Coach Dambrot who has underachieved like no one ever could have ever imagined during his tenure at Duquesne..all while allowing more guys to leave and excel out of Pittsburgh than any other program. That guy is more overrated than Juwan Howard.

Duquesne Dukes (Atlantic 10 Conference) (2017–present)
2017–18 Duquesne 16–16 7–11 T–10th
2018–19 Duquesne 19–13 10–8 T–6th

I mean, no one wins at Duquesne. That school has won 20 games just 4 times going back to 1980. 2 are with Dambrot. I’d say outside of the 21/22 season, he’s overachieved.

Looking at Dambrot's track record, I have no doubt that at least two of these recruits will be starring in the MAC after next season.

Being a fan of the Nuggets here in Colorado I marvel at the unselfish play by the (2) time
MVP (the Joker). My hope is the Bobcats watch some film and consider the "extra pass" to the wide open shooter this fall. That is beautiful basketball.

Even more when you consider a 24 second shot clock.

Isaiah Carr of Grand Canyon was one of the other three visitors a few weeks back. Not sure if anyone has insight on the third. Maybe Wilhelm Breidenbach of Nebraska? The big pursue struggle is real.
