That’s a fun field. San Jose State and Missouri State were in Nassau last year.

Students will get at least three home non conference games against D1 teams while they are on campus. Last year they had only one. That's nice.

The rest of the Nassau championship field is set. This is a true tournament, so there is a chance we play Delaware twice next year:

Brown (Ivy)
Cal State Fullerton (Big West)
Delaware (CAA)
East Carolina (American)
Kansas City (Summit)
Middle Tennessee (C-USA)
Ohio (MAC)
UIC (MVC)

Definitely not as strong as this past year’s field based on 2022-23 records; but, doesn’t mean these team’s can’t surprise next season given the portal. Just wish there were more 20 win teams in the field. Cal State Fullerton leads the way with 20 wins, followed by us/MTSU with 19, Delaware with 17, ECU went 16-17. Brown, KC, and UIC (first season in MVC) all had pretty bad losing records.

I like our chances with what’s returning; especially if we address needs in the portal. Excited about this nonetheless.

At their home arenas or on aircraft carriers.

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Seven mid-major Division I men's basketball teams are scheduled to play in the 2023 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship, Nov. 24-26, at the Baha Mar Resort.

The partial field currently includes Brown (14-13, 7-7 Ivy League in 2022-23), Delaware (17-16, 8-10 Colonial Athletic Association), George Washington (16-16, 10-8 Atlantic 10), UIC (12-20, 4-16 Missouri Valley), Kansas City (11-21, 7-11 Summit League), Middle Tennessee (19-14, 11-9 Conference USA) and Ohio (19-14, 10-8 Mid-American).

Five teams that competed in the 2022 event went on to post at least 20 victories this past season, highlighted by Vermont qualifying for the NCAA Tournament; North Texas winning the postseason NIT; and San Jose State appearing in the CBI.

The complete eight-team field for the 2023 event, along with tournament schedule, ticket information and streaming details will be announced later but fans can begin to make their reservation plans now!

If Southern Illinois can host Oklahoma State, I feel like a P5 convo visit should be doable.

At the moment, the Salukis hold a little more leverage for that than Ohio, or many MAC schools do. At least in the MVC, half the conference isn't in the bottom 100 in the NET. Heck, in the MAC, the bottom 3 teams are in the bottom 30 or so. The whole state of Michigan. Wooofff...

Maybe we’re just asking the wrong schools. Oklahoma State played at Oakland last season too.

Maybe so. Here's another thought: airport access, or in Ohio's case, the lack of a commercial one nearby might affect things. Maybe? Of course Carbondale isn't exactly a metropolis, so that's kind of out as a reason there.

Your guess is as good mine. Maybe Oklahoma State is just the ultimate P5 opponent. Meaning, it will travel anywhere for non-conference. With the way the roster is shaping up, I’m just hoping to avoid the Alabama State’s and UC Clermont’s of the world.

Amen to that - at least on the Alabama State's.

UC Clermont doesn't really matter since it's not D1, and I'm OK with just one non-D1 for a tune-up type game.

Yeah, it's... fine. I'm glad I'm either arriving OR leaving, but never laying over (both) because then it would be the worst.

Could be the access to an airport; but, NKU is hosting FAU next season.

At Cleveland State Saturday 11/11. Nice and easy gift for NE Ohio alumni.

This also about ensures that the season opener will be a weeknight home game as part of the Sun Belt Challenge. Best guess is still JMU.

Leaves us with 2 open games, right? The JMU matchup would be a nice opener. Obviously subject to change; but, early bracketology has JMU in tourney as Sun Belt champs.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but the Nassau bracket of that Bahamas invitational is all mid-majors, though there is some quality to be had. It just stinks there aren't any power conference teams it. Guaranteed at least three games it looks like though.

The 2022 Field - Ball State, Vermont, Missouri State, UNC-Wilmington, North Texas, San Jose State, Oakland and Long Beach State.

https://bahamarhoops.com/#!/bahamaschamp

So based on that we can probably bet we'll be going on the road for at least a couple money games.

2023 Field: (According to D1 docket)

Ohio, Brown, Middle Tenn State, Providence, Kansas City, Illinois-Chicago (every team gets 3 games and all games will be shown by Flo Hoops)

Events Website: https://bahamarhoops.com

PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE play MTSU and beat their ass for bailing on MAC membership and leaving WKU high and dry on that front. They deserve a good ass kicking.

Leaving WKU high and dry? You mean the same WKU that left the Sun Belt and is now majorly regretting that decision? WKU can't blame MTSU for where it currently stands after the decision they made prior to this all unfolding. They made their bed, now they don't want to lie in it any longer. It's not MTSU's fault for not wanting to join the MAC, it is WKU's for leaving the Sun Belt.

When is the last time you were there? 2012? It's had a ton of upgrades. As someone who travels for work, I can tell you it's VERY nice compared to many regional airports.

Also, an hour out of Columbus is that big of a hurdle? How did Obama get to OU? How is Iowa State getting here? How does West Virginia function as a Big 12 university?

As always, I think we're letting these people off too easy.

"Letting them off" implies we have any leverage at all. I'm sure we beg them to come, they don't because there's literally no upside to doing so. We're a tough team to beat, a home crowd makes it harder, and we look like a bad loss on your resume as a coach.

Why would they schedule us on the road when they don't have to?

Correct. High risk/low reward. Cannot blame them...

At some point I recall one of our coaches calling out other programs for not wanting to play us in the media or on Twitter. May have been Saul or even Groce? I'd love to see more of this however you need to be pretty confident in yourself/your team to make a big fuss like that or you may look silly.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Not sure how Iowa State will get here. I remember that I was told that UConn several years ago opted to fly a chartered jet into the Parkersburg Airport. So, there are other options than Columbus, but it's probably the one used most by schools traveling some distance to get to Athens. And, I agree, CMH is a fairly good airport.
