All I know is getting Davidson in Cleveland is gonna be a lot of fun! The fact that it's a doubleheader with WVU and Ohio A&M, that's going to be a great day for college hoops in Cleveland and the kind of event that should excite the hoop fans here. Feel free to disagree, but hats off to our staff on pulling that off!

National TV schedule is out. So far our only home game that is slated for TV is Tuesday, January 2nd vs Toledo on ESPNU.

The other home games of ours that could be moved are

2/3 vs Miami. CBSSN and ESPN2 both have Friday night slots. Given this is sibs weekend, I hope we have some sort of pull/option to request NOT to have this one moved.

3/2 vs BG. CBSSN has a Friday slot

Interested in the results from this. Duquesne got some national love for its matchup against Charleston the first week as being a non-conference game to watch.

Ohio loses 72-59 according to a Duquesne blogger. I have no other info.

Thanks for sharing. Won’t look too much into it. Last season we beat UC and Baker led us in scoring with 21 points. Didn’t exactly translate moving forward.

Exactly...only thing I really care about is what was the starting lineup.

Just watched Boals sit down with Russ (posted an hour ago on Facebook). Apparently we were supposed to get St. Bonnies initially in the Cleveland matchup.

Curious if anyone knows when they'll announce the Feb 10th destination for the MAC/SBC Challenge? I've searched conference websites without success.

A well oiled machine like the vaunted MAC offices?

Surely they'll have a MACtion info graphic posted to their Instagram by Feb 8th.

I would just look at NET rankings to get an idea of where we could land. Unfortunately for us, that currently looks like Marshall again right now. We’re 216, Marshall is 207. Next Sun Belt school closest to us is South Alabama. Miami however, is closer to it in rankings.

Isn't Marshall sitting out the Challenge? They didn't play in the first round played at MAC schools.

I’m not sure, would obviously prefer not the play Marshall again. All subject to change still nonetheless.

Per the SBC conference website - games will be announced in January and matchups will be based on current NET ratings, unless they already played earlier in the season.

Marshall and Coastal Carolina are the 2 Sun Belt teams not participating.

https://sunbeltsports.org/news/2023/6/22/mens-basketball-...

Based on that current matchups would be:

Akron (NET - 89) @ James Madison (NET - 61)
Toledo (137) @ Appalachian St (73)
BG (189) @ Louisiana (139)
Kent (192) @ Troy (144)
Ohio (218) @ Georgia St (185)
Miami (225) @ Arkansas St (191)
N Illinois (260) @ South Alabama (236)
W Michigan (262) @ Texas St (241)
Ball St (283) @ Southern Miss (242)
C Michigan (287) @ Old Dominion (276)
E Michigan (319) @ UL-Monroe (340) (they already played Ga Southern)
Buffalo (344) @ Ga Southern (327)

Good info Graff / FJC. Thanks!

Showing those lists really highlights how bad the MAC is this year.

Seems like in years past there has always been at least one team in the top 55-75, and another not too far behind. That our 3rd, 4th, 5th best teams are at or around 200...Woof....

Along those same lines, when did App St get good at basketball?

Shifting gears completely here but did nto want to start a new thread. I see this Friday the MAC has both a CBS game and an ESPN game set. Next week we are set for the Friday CBS game but there is no ESPN game. The following Friday (2/2) ESPN has Toledo/Akron set but no CBS game set. Is CBS still going to grab a game from 2/3 and move to Friday? God I hope not, because looking at the slate of games they would almost have to take Ohio/Miami by default.

There is a CBS slot for a MAC game on 2/2 at 6:30.

In a perfect world, we'd have the ability to designate one game as untouchable. Sibs weekend vs our main rival would be that game. Maybe we have that ability, maybe we don't.

I'd put my money on Bowling Green/CMU getting the spot. My observation is TV wants a matchup with at least one team looking like a true league contender rather than two mediocre teams. And even Central currently has a better MAC record than us and Miami.

There's no ESPN slot on 1/26 and Ohio at Kent was picked for CBS. BG/Toledo was another option that I'm shocked did not get picked instead. Perhaps schools do have that ability to preserve one home game.

I don't know that the MAC even has a direct deal with CBS.

I think ESPN bought all of the MAC's TV inventory for ESPN+, and then sells the slots it doesn't want to CBS each year. Given that it's a degree removed from the deal, I would be surprised if the MAC has much say about what goes to CBS and what doesn't.

F.....

I would almost bank on them taking us. If I remember right, they decide 10-12ish days in advance? So we should know after the EMU game and before the Akron game?

Very good chance Ohio & Miami are both 3-3 after this weekend. I feel like they are definitely gonna take us and it is going to crap all over my plans AGAIN. Our only hope is they'll note they have us the week before and want to mix it up. They may also look ahead to 2/17 and see Ohio/Toledo as the preferred matchup from that slate which is a lot of mismatches (2/10 is the Sun Belt weekend)

Revisiting this, CMU moves to 4-2 and BG 5-1 (whoa)...so that sure seems like the pick. If they wait until after the games tomorrow, could become more obvious as Ohio & Miami are both likely road dogs while CMU & BG will be home favorites.
